Frequently Asked Questions about Study Medicine Abroad

» How do we communicate with patients who can only speak their mother language?
All classes are taught in the english and students will be taught the countries language in their pre-clinical years. Foreign students who study medicine abroad or who study dentistry abroad will be taught in classes, separate from the home medical students. All lectures, practicals and examinations will be conducted in english.

» What expenses will I have per academic year?
Tuition fees remain fixed throughout the duration of the course. The cost of living in the Eastern Europe is about 1/3 of what it would be for the average students in the UK. The average student is expected to spend about £3000 in living expenses per academic year including cost of accommodation, food, travel and books. The expence obviously depends on the lifestyle of the student.

» How much time will I actually spend abroad?
Most European students have the advantage of being just a 2-hour flight from home. This makes it possible for some students to spend long weekends at home at anytime during the year, if they wish. Usually, students abroad are able to have 2 months during Christmas and the New-Year, and 3 months during the Summer months. Some students may be able to achieve longer periods at home if they complete their exams earlier.

» Will I have to share a room at the University Halls of Residence?
Students who go to study abroad usually share a double room with another student abroad of the same academic year (with a classmate). This is a double room sharing a bathroom and kitchen. A place at Halls is usually guaranteed for all first year foreign students, and usually thoughout the rest of their course. English speaking home students may also live within the same Halls, providing the opportunity to learn the home language.
Some students prefer to live in private accommodation. This is available at very reasonable prices, usually closer to the Medical School or Dental School.

» What About Medical Insurance and Visa requirements?
All foreign students are required to have medical insurance during their stay in Eastern Europe. This can be arranged in your home country or in the country of study at a very low cost. All non-European students are required to have a Student Visa, enabling them to study.

» Can I get funding from my LEA towards tuition fees?
No. Currently, in the UK, assistance towards payment of tuition fees is not given to British students that study abroad at a University based outside the UK.

» Why should I get my personal statement checked by medical and dental students and professionals?
Our Medical and Dental professionals have successfully been through the UCAS application process and have had ample experience with checking personal statements. They are usually practicing doctors and dentists who know what it takes to make you stand out of the crowd.

» What is checked on your personal statement?
The content of your statement is vital, as well as the way it is expressed. Our editors will be able to assist in both areas to make sure your statement is the best reflection of you and also try and include as much relevant information about you and your experiences as possible.
